Not Just Batting and Fielding

Like all athletes, cricketers need to prepare for gameday to perform at their peak. Strength and conditioning training is an important part of any serious athletes routine in order to condition the body for the rigours of gameday and also help prevent injury. With long days at the crease or in the field, it is important for cricketers to recover quickly and back-up the next day. We take a look at the equipment Cricketers use away from the field to prepare them for the weekend and recover afterwards.

Medicine Balls

A staple of any gym. Medicine balls are used in strength training and rehabilitation. Hand-held med balls are popular with bowlers to loosen up before practice and games. Heavier weighted balls are utilised for side-stretching exercises.

Foam Rollers

Perfect to help loosen up before a game or roll out any sore spots after a long day in the field. Foam rollers come in all shapes and sizes and provide different levels of hardness - a harder roller will give a more intense massage, whereas a softer roller will provide a more gentle and comfortable massage. Some rollers come with dimples to provide a more hands on feel, penetrating the muscle tissue deeper and providing greater relief

Reaction Balls

Reaction balls are the ideal tool for improving hand-eye coordination, reaction timing, footwork and agility. Used in warm-ups for those fielding in the slip cordon and away from gameday by batsmen looking for that quicker reaction time and improving footwork.

Resistance Tubes

Resistance tubes come in varying strengths for people with different workout goals or abilities. For bowlers in particular, these tubes are perfect for replicating some of the action involved in delivering a ball without putting significant strain on the body. Easy to store and take on the road, they can also be used for warm-up before games and training.

Wobble Boards & Balance Discs

Frequently used in rehab for rehabilitation exercises, adding a balance disc or wobble board into your workout regime will help to engage the smaller muscles around your joints, improving stability and reducing your risk of injury.
